Sherry & Gordon ~ Columbus Wedding Photographer

This wedding was very special to me. Sherry and I have been friends for almost 10 years. We have gone through so much together – guys, many of girls nights, shopping, babies, discovering God’s grace, moves, being that ear & shoulder for each other, and oh so much more. So when she visited me here in DC during October 2011 I remember having one of those conversations that Sherry hates, but you know is needed. It went kinda like this, (me) “So you have been talking about hanging out with Gordon and so on for months. What’s up with that? Do you like him?” (Sherry) “We are just friends, nothing more” (me) “Seriously the man is at your house mowing your lawn while you are in DC with me – there is more :)” Sherry smiled at me and the conversation was over. Sure enough only a couple weeks later they went on their first “real” date and the rest is history 🙂

Sherry & Gordon have know each other for 12-13? years. We all actually worked together and at one point in the very beginning Sherry was Gordon’s boss! Time sure changes things. It is so amazing to see Sherry genuinely happy with someone and that she has someone who adores her. They planned a Fall wedding around the time of their 1 year anniversary. I am so very honored that Sherry chose me to be her matron of honor. As a good friend who happens to be a wedding photographer, I am so incredibly thankful that I did not have to choose what role to play in the wedding. As her matron of honor though she did request that I wear my photographer hat for 45 minutes or so for a few getting ready images and their portraits (while another photographer covered the rest of the day). Best of both worlds 🙂

Sherry & Gordon – I wish you both all the happiness in the world! Thank you for allowing me to be part of your day. Love you 🙂

2nd favorite moment of the day for sure! I had just helped Sherry into her gown and Mia (Sherry’s 7 year old daughter) walked in to see her mom for the first time as a bride. Both of their expressions are priceless 🙂

They decided to do a first look so that I could the photos before dark (THANK you Gordon 🙂 ). As a best friend this was my favorite moment of the day 🙂 The joy of both of their faces was so tangible. Love 🙂

Kate & Jonathan ~ Virginia Wedding Photographer

As I finished up a phone call, I walked into the coffee shop 20 minutes before our appointment time. Looking around for a table for the meeting I noticed a young lady also looking around. Thinking that must be her, I quickly got off of the call and introduced myself to Kate. I remember sitting there thinking how different this meeting was from the start. You see, I am 99% early to meetings with potential clients just in case they arrive early, but almost never are they. More often in the DC area it is common to get a text saying they are running late due to traffic (we all know it is horrific!). So when Kate was early I was intrigued 🙂 She came so prepared! She had compiled a list of well thought out questions that she didn’t just take from a wedding site. I do believe it was the quickest meeting I have ever had. Kate was planning her whole wedding on spring break and was a woman on a mission 🙂 Love it!

Kate & Jonathan decided to get married in the area that Kate grew up in – which made the wedding a destination for most of the guests. They were married at Kate’s childhood church and then embraced the theme of a Washington DC wedding with their reception at Top of the Town in Arlington. Top of the Town has a great distance view of the entire DC area. The day of the their wedding started off with sleet, rain, and some snow. Kind of seemed appropriate since Jonathan is from Canada, eh? 🙂 After the ceremony though the weather had cleared up and we were able to do their photos at the Jefferson (a very sentimental place to the couple). All in all a great wedding day!

Kate & Jonathan – You both are precious and have such sweet hearts. Thank you for sharing your special day with me. Best wishes in med school!!!

Kate & Jonathan decided to not see each other before the ceremony but took a moment to pray with one another.

Kate & Jonathan love to have silly face contests (remember their engagement?) so when it came to their wedding day I knew we had to have a contest with the bridal party 🙂

Emily & Reese ~ Pinehurst, NC Wedding Photography

They waited for this day for so long. After being together through so much and for so long the day finally came that they would become one. Emily is originally from the North Carolina area and still holds it dear so when they were planning it only made sense to get married in North Carolina. Most traveled down to Pinehurst for Thanksgiving (I hear the spread is amazing!) and made a weekend out of it. Emily & Reese were married on a gorgeous fall day surrounded by dear friends and family. If you have never been to Pinehurst, it is beautiful! Old Southern charm really. Emily’s mom and one of her sister’s did a lot of the design for the wedding and was it ever gorgeous! As a photographer I was in heaven and just might have squealed with joy as I saw the day unfold 🙂 Don’t forget to leave them a comment on this post and help them win a prize!

Pinehurst was all decked out in their holiday decor – it was beautiful!

I adored her dress! The lace overlay was so beautiful and delicate.

Aren’t these the prettiest flowers you have seen?

As Emily was getting ready her mom gave her a gorgeous belt to wear with her dress that she made! Within the belt though she included a charm for something blue, a flower from her own wedding dress as something old, the belt was something new, her maternal grandmothers handkerchief as something borrowed, and a sixpence for her shoe. Love it!

Since their ceremony was after dark Emily & Reese opted to take advantage of the daylight and do a first look, so that we had plenty of time to get their portraits done (THANK YOU!!!!!!).

The moments where it is just the bride & groom and I am not directing them at all (in fact I think I was in a bush at this point) are always some of the favorites 🙂

The gorgeous coat Emily is wearing belonged to her paternal grandmother as well. How cool that her wedding has a vintage feel but it also has so many elements that are truly vintage? So cool!

Favorite! It embodies the whole theme for the wedding.

I don’t normally blog images from the family portrait time but these two jumped out at me. The one of the left is with Rebecca, one of Emily’s sisters, and the one who introduced Reese to Emily. Rebecca used to work at a staffing agency that our old financial firm used. Rebekah passed along both Reese & Emily’s resumes to the firm within a few weeks of one another. Pretty neat eh? 🙂 The image on the right just makes me smile. I have a weak spot for brides with their dad though 🙂
