A good reminder….

Often I, along with other photographers, can get wrapped up in how technically strong an image is and pitch any image that doesn’t meet up to our standards.  Back in April I photographed the wedding of Kenny & Genna Hamilton at the Westin Grand in Georgetown.  The below image is one of those where the lighting conditions were not ideal and in taking this image I must have moved so the image is slightly out of focus.  However when I was processing the image it captured me.  Isn’t that what images are supposed to do?  Thankfully I loved it so much I left it in the bride & groom’s final set of images.  Last Tuesday, Genna’s father passed away.  It was completely unexpected and sudden.  This image now has even so much more meaning to this family, especially Genna.  Having lost my father only 2.5 years ago myself, my heart is so heavy for Genna & her family. This situation is such a good reminder of why I do what I do.  If you wouldn’t mind saying a prayer for this family during this season I know they would appreciate it.

Genna & Kenny – my heart goes out to you.  Please let me know if I can do anything for you during this time.

Travis & Jenny ~ Virginia Couple Photographer

Have you ever had a set of friends whom you just feel so at home with?  Travis & Jenny are those kind of friends for my husband and I.  Brandon, my husband, and Travis knew each other in the past but had lost touch over time.  Then a couple years ago Travis & Jenny moved to the DC area for school.  We quickly re-connected and the rest is history.  They will be leaving the area in January for some traveling and then will be moving to Central Asia.  We are so excited for them but are going to miss them so much.  Before they took off though I got them in front of my camera for a little fun session in an apple orchard.  What can be more romantic then cuddling in an apple orchard? 🙂

Travis & Jenny – You both have become so special to Brandon and I.  We love you dearly and will miss you sooooo much!!!

My favorite 🙂

Ashley & Shawn ~ Virginia Portrait Photographer

Picture it with me…you are surrounded by all of your bridesmaids giddily squealing over all the little details of the wedding day (yes, for you men out there….we women do this).   Your hair is done, veil in place and now it is time for the makeup.  Looking around the room you can’t believe that this day is finally here.  You have planned for this for so long, since you were 5 to be exact 🙂  Quickly you snap back to reality and the makeup artist begins her magic.  The door opens and your mom walks in.  There is something wrong, her face is not right.  She approaches you and tells you to not freak out.  Wow, this is not good if she is starting her sentence that way.  Mom what could be that wrong on my wedding day?  Well……your photographer is not coming.  Excuse me?  She sent two people though so it is covered, don’t freak out.  Seriously?

This is how Ashley started her wedding day.  Could you even imagine??  As a photographer I can not believe this…so uncalled for.  Ashley handled it with such grace though and did not let it ruin her day.  After the wedding when they got the images and lets just say they left something to be desired.  Still, Ashley (& Shawn, her new hubby) had so much grace and just wanted to be done with it all.  They still didn’t have a good image of the two of them though.  Well, we solved that!!!!  Awhile back Ashley & Shawn won a session with me that you voted on. I can not even express how excited I am about these images.  There were so many good ones!!!  I am sure I am partial because they are a super cute couple and it was GORGEOUS outside with the fall colors 🙂

Ashley & Shawn – I do hope that we redeemed your wedding days images some and given you some great images to frame in your new place.  It was so much fun working with you!

Who doesn’t love cuddling in the woods ? 🙂

Seriously???  This one needs to be your Christmas card!

Or maybe this one is the card?

Towards the end of the session we changed and got some awesome photos in the wedding attire.  Ashely – you now have some photos, oh yeah!

Tamara & Langston ~ Virginia Engagement Photographer

A couple of weeks ago I traveled down to Harrisonburg, Virginia for an awesome engagement session with Tamara & Langston.  We could not have asked for a more beautiful fall day, the weather was gorgeous (although towards the end it got rather chilly 🙂 )!!!  Both Tamara & Langston met while they were attending James Madison University.  When Tamara first called me she knew that the perfect place to have their engagement session was where it all started.  I was happy to oblige 🙂   So, without further ado, meet Tamara & Langston…

Their dog Pharaoh joined us for the session…

One of just “mom” & “dad”….

and one with the “kid” :)…

LOVE these!!!

Seriously???  Wow….this deserves the be printed BIG! 🙂

Maybe my favorite fun moment of the session…

Have to admit that I am slightly jealous of those curls…..but isn’t that the plight of a straight haired girl? 🙂

And one last “family” image….

Tamara & Langston – It was a joy meeting you both!  Thanks for sharing your afternoon & love story with me.  Have fun wedding planning !!!

Love in the woods ~ Virginia Engagement Photographer

You that kind of look when a couple has first started dating?  You know the one I am talking about.  When I first met Liz & Matt, they had this look.  They have been together for over 4 years now, but look like they just started dating.  Laughter and cuddling is key to making it work 🙂  So in deciding where to do their engagement session we knew that we wanted a place that would allow for some cuddling and that their dog Bob could join them.  We ended up going to Great Falls on a gorgeous afternoon!!!  If you haven’t been to Great Falls and you are in the DC Metro area, you really should go.  It is so beautiful and something that you don’t really expect to see in this metropolitan of an area.  Okay, back to the lovebirds 🙂  This was such a fun session!!  We laughed a lot, played with Bob the dog and shared so many stories.  The best recipe for a great session!

Liz & Matt – I had sooooo much fun on our session and at dinner.  You guys are a great couple and I can not wait to photograph your special day!!  Enjoy your images 🙂

A “grandma” (as I call them) classic image…

I got pretty dirty for this image, but come on look at it!  Oh yeah 🙂

Playing with Bob…
