The Nursery ~ MD Newborn photographer

Only after the boys newborn photos, the most requested photos that my friends on my personal Facebook page ask to see is the nursery.  I had shared a few sneak peaks of elements of the nursery on Instagram & I guess it made people curious 🙂  So I thought I would blog them & share the nursery with those of you who like decorating.

I have always loved to decorate.  I remember as a child I would move the furniture around my room every few months just to be able to decorate 🙂  Through the years I’ve always day dreamed of how I would decorate a nursery.  I’ve helped numerous people decorate their nurseries and even did a full one from top to bottom for a friend’s twins.  So much fun 🙂  So when we found out we were pregnant I started pinning ideas but waited until we knew the gender to really start.  It was at that same appointment that we also found out the boys were mono-mono.  Our doctor told us not to have a baby shower and to wait until 24 weeks to really do anything for the boys.  After we processed the diagnosis & all that it entailed for a couple weeks, we decided that a sign of hope & faith that our boys would come home we would do their nursery.  At that point we had about 4 weeks and not a huge budget since we had planned on spacing it out over the pregnancy.  We got creative though and with the help of family we pulled it off before I went into the hospital.  My favorite thing about this nursery is that others had a part in it.  So enjoy my favorite room of the house 🙂

We scored a solid wood Amish made glider off of Craiglist for $80 & my mother-in-law made a slip cover for it in a fabric I liked.  My Aunt Barbara bought the fabric for the curtains and my mom made them (there are blackout curtains behind the print ones as well). My in-laws gifted the boys the cribs.

I really liked the crib skirts but they are so expensive, especially for two.  So we bought fabric & my mom made the skirts with the help of an online tutorial.

I literally cut out all the moons & stars for the mobiles and hand threaded all of them to make the mobiles.  I originally got the idea off of Etsy and the seller was charging $50.  I thought, seriously I can make that.  Well after making two I now know why she charges $50 each 🙂  So happy with how they came out though!

For the initials I got paper mache letters from the craft store and spray painted them cream.  I then traced the shapes on a world map, cut out each letter and used mod podge to adhere the map to the letters.  A photography friend has a calligraphy business (The Weekend Type, check it out!) wrote out the scripture verse (Isaiah 61:7 – Instead of your shame you will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace you will rejoice in your inheritance. And so you will inherit a double portion in your land, and everlasting joy will be yours.).  The star night light I have been saving since college 🙂

The changing table we got off Craiglist again and Brandon painted it to match our colors.  The frames are from The Carving Tree.  My mom made the pennant banner with our fabric scraps to tie in all the fabrics we used.

While on hospital bed rest I crocheted both boys their own blankets.
