Taylor & Steve ~ Great Falls Engagement Photographer

Dreamy & romantic is how I would describe Taylor & Steve’s e-session! Taylor & Steve met as freshmen at Tufts University in Boston. That first nght they noticed each other at a party and so the friendship began. After college they moved around some and are now residents of the Bay area in California. While I was out in California for my brother-in-law’s wedding I was able to meet up with Taylor & Steve for a cup of coffee and talk about their special day. It is going to be great

For their engagement session I saw that they loved to camp, exploring, and just being with one another. So we chose Great Falls Park to do their engagement session. They both were so willing to go with the flow and with my ideas We ended the night at Taylor’s dad’s home for the first cookout of the season (thank again for a great meal!)!

Taylor & Steve – Thanks for choosing me as your photographer and I can’t wait for your big day in September!

Just to forewarn you – there are a lot of images and a lot of kissing When a couple naturally is comfortable with cuddling/kissing in front of the camera I just put them in a great location and change my angles. It is so natural and I love the expressions I get!

Meet Kristen & Frank – they are pretty awesome One weekend Kristen visited DC from NYC, where she was getting her doctor of physical therapy, and met through their mutual friend Dave. The first 3 years they knew one another they became good friends and enjoyed visits with each other. Eventually they realized there were deeper feelings on both fronts and so started their dating relationship Both attended Georgetown University, although not at the same time, so it is only fitting to do their engagement session on the campus.

Kristen & Frank – thanks for a great session! I look forward to your November wedding

Both were in the marching band and love music so we snuck in their old band room for some cute images

During our session Kristen explained to me how there is superstition with this seal. It says if you walk over it while a student then you will not graduate! So, what did I do…ask them to lay on it You should have seen the looks of the students as they passed by! It was quite funny

Danielle & Jay ~ Old Town Alexandria, Virginia Photographer

The first time I met Danielle was during the Washington Bridal Showcase. She stood out to me because she was so excited about getting married and was embracing all the information! The large bridal shows are so overwhelming it is rare to see someone come by that doesn’t look like a deer caught in the headlights Danielle and I chatted and then later I saw her excitingly running over to my booth. She had won the engagement session give away! We waited for it to warm up and met up a few weeks ago for an Old Town engagement session. It was such a fun afternoon!

Danielle’s one request was images where they were laughing – check!

They were engaged last July right before the Nats game that night (they are big baseball fans!) and Danielle saved the paper from that day.

They used to live in this portion of Old Town and saw the Woodrow Wilson bridge daily so we thought it would be fun to incorporate it into their session.

Danya & Bryan ~ DC Engagement Photographer

I met up with Dayna & Bryan a few weeks ago on the National Mall for their engagement session. Dayna is from Kansas and Bryan just finished his PhD at the University of Maryland. They are getting married in Kansas this fall but since their relationship formed between both states they wanted to document both places. Emailing back and forth with Dayna was so fun! I could tell how much she loved Bryan and her excitement for their session was so evident. The day of the session did not disappoint and we had gorgeous weather!!

They had originally wanted a cherry blossom session, but with the warmer temps this year we missed the cherry blossoms I heard that these are another kind of cherry blossom though, so we didn’t fully miss them..maybe

Bryan proposed at “The Signers of the Declaration Memorial” in the National Mall area so they asked to incorporate it into their session. The memorial is a park area with these gorgeous willows. Aren’t willows just so romantic?

I just love Spring (well minus the allergies part of it ). Spring is just good for the soul. The constant reminder that something that once looked dead from the outside is really alive & well is something that is so encouraging. We all go through ruts and periods where we feel uninspired, ho hum, or just like it is Groundhog day over and over. Then Spring arrives and something inside of us comes alive. This is why I love Spring

I have sooooo enjoyed taking my puppy (yes she will always be a puppy in my eyes ) on walks this Spring. I tend to take my iPhone with me and listen to music while we walk and when we come across something beautiful I am able to take a picture. Sure it is not with my “fancy” camera, but the memory is preserved and the walk is simplified. I have tried taking images with my “fancy” camera while holding a 100 pound dog before and let me tell you that I just might have been seen doing a face plant as the dog tried to chase another dog. Yeah, no fun. Instagram has become my friend for this reason! Here is a little collage of Spring from the my neighborhood…

I promise I am still around This time of year always gets crazy with the business side of running a photography business. A lot of people ask me around this time of year, “are you excited to start working again?!?!”. I just have to chuckle I have heard it said many times that running a photography business is 90% business and only 10% photography. This is soooo true!!! There are so many things that go into running a business and while I am better at some than others, they all have to be done. So, I have been working on taxes, tracking miles for all of 2011 (yes I am so bad and only wrote down where the appointments/sessions were and had to go back with Google maps), lots of networking meetings, etc. The season is starting for me though and last week I had 3 portrait sessions that I am excited to share with you soon! Until then enjoy a few sneak peaks

Getting paid to cuddle babies is the best A few weeks ago I was able to do Lela’s first photo session and got to hang out with lots of Katie’s family. It was such a great way to spend my Saturday!

A tribute…

Last week I stood in a friend’s living room and received the news that Ruby Joy had, at 2.5 years old, passed away. My heart broke for her mother & father. The family has always been such examples to all on what faith is. They held strong and loved their baby girl when all the doctors told them to prepare for the worst. In her short life she proved doctors wrong on many occasions! Ruby Joy was just that, a joy! You couldn’t be around her and not smile. She couldn’t speak but her joy was evident.

Ruby – thank you for sharing your joy:) You will be missed princess….

Mitch & Katie – Thank you for being such examples of pure faith in God and what He can do. I know that this road has not been an easy one, but do know that God has spoken so loudly though you both during this time. My prayers are with you….

A couple of weeks ago I was able to spend the day with this precious little girl and her family. Can I just say I love newborns? Sure in most newborn sessions I get peed on, pooped on, and thrown up on but I love it! It is amazing to see their little features and their personalities starting to develop.
