Bee Redeemed – Dustin & Torrey ~ DC Wedding Photographer

August 28th, 2010

Without  fail I will be at a wedding, church (DC Metro rocks!), or even the grocery store and when people find out that I am a wedding photographer they feel the need to tell me how horrible their wedding photos are.  I feel bad for everyone of them, but there is not much that can be done at that point.  The lesson of  “getting what you pay for” is a hard lesson for many people when it comes to wedding photography.  I mean come on lets face it, weddings are expensive!  Like really expensive!!!  So something has to give right?  Well at the end of the day the flowers are dead, the cake is eaten, and your dress sits in a box.  All you have are the images that were created on that day.  So, for those of you who have get to be married….do not skimp on your wedding photographer.  Make sure your personalities mesh and that you love their work.  Then hire them:)  For those who have had the horrible experience that I am talking about you have choices!!  I am launching a new type of session called “Bee Redeemed”.  The “Bee Redeemed” session is just exactly how it sounds; lets go out and redeem your wedding day images.  Get your dress out of the box (yes, even if you have preserved it…is your daughter really going to wear it??) and get your hubby in his suit or tux and lets go make some amazing images!!!  It really is a lot of fun, I promise:)  Contact me at heather@heatherbeephoto.com if you are interested.  Now on to some images!!!

Last Friday I had the honor (and yes it really is an honor) of redeeming Dustin & Torrey’s wedding images.  You see they got married almost exactly a year ago and they have yet to get their wedding photos.  Yeah, you read that right, a year ago.  Also, the ones they have seen have been, well less than stellar.  Having good images was really important to Torrey so you can only imagine the heartbreak when she realized she may never get her photos.  Enter me:)  I had photographed one of Torrey’s friends weddings and she loved the images so we decided to get dressed back up and get some rockin’ images in her wedding gown.  Be prepared, there are a lot of images!!!  Dustin & Torrey choose Eastern Market for their “Bee Redeemed” session.

We started with some bridal portraits….

Torrey – you are seriously gorgeous!!!

Torrey loves the vintage look so I had to throw a “vintage inspired” image in for her:)

What other couple can rock a shot with water pipes in the background….they certainly do!

Aren’t Dustin’s eyes amazing here??

Probably my favorite smiling one of Torrey…

Rrrrrr…

Okay, so you might recognize this car since I have used it before, but as we were walking through the back alleys of the Eastern Market I saw it.  I asked them if they wanted their own car shot.  Of course they did.  When I saw the results I couldn’t not show you guys:)  If I see the car again though, it is now off limits:)

After we finished up in their wedding attire we all ran in Starbucks to get an iced beverage and change outfits.  Before the sun set we grabbed a few everyday shots.

Love this one!!!

Dustin & Torrey – It was such an honor to redeem your wedding images.  I hope they provide you with new emotions & memories.  Thank you for trusting me.

The Crenshaw Family (part 1) ~ Maryland Family Photographer

August 27th, 2010

On what must have the been the most humid day that Annapolis had this summer, the Crenshaw family and I ventured into Old Town Annapolis for their family pictures.  Well, lets just say that the humidity made it pretty hard for all of us:)  So, here you will see part one of our session and part two will be happening soon.  Even though it was pretty hot it we got some great stuff!

I start all my family sessions by taking the more traditional images done that every family wants a few of.  When you are working with kiddos you definitely learn to shoot when they are happy:)

Jeremy, Kat, & Jackson – I love your little family!!!  It has been great getting to know you both over the past year or so.  I can’t wait for part two of our session!!!

♥ Heather

Kat’s niece, Angelica, was staying with them for the summer.  So of course we had to include her in the pics!!!

I always insist on the parents getting a few images of them just as a couple. So if you have me do a session be prepared:)

Contest nominees!!!!

August 25th, 2010

It is finally time to vote!!! During the month of July several of you nominated people who you thought were deserving of a free photo session (I know this blog entry is a little late, sorry guys:) ).  Well, it is time to vote on your favorite!!!!  We had some great entries and man is it going to be hard to choose.

So, here is how the voting works….you can vote once on the blog by using the survey at the bottom of the post.  You can also vote a second time if you “like” Heather Bee Photography on Facebook and vote using the survey there.  You will have until August 31st to vote.  So, send out emails and Facebook updates to get your all your friends & family to vote!!!  Now onto the nominees…..

#1 Shawn & Ashley

“I would like to nominate Shawn and Ashley Ludaker.  They just moved to the area and they have been married for just over a month.  They came to our bible study last night and we started talking wedding photos.  Apparently, the woman whom they choose to do their pictures, didn’t show up.  Her husband (who really is her assistant) came with another girl they had never met.  Their pictures turned out horribly.  They seemed really disappointed!  They had worked with the woman before and liked her work, but since she wasn’t there there are a lot of pictures they didn’t get.  Apparently, they took pictures outside the church and none of them came out.  Anyways, i would like to nominate them for a “post-ceremony- session” where she can put her dress back on and they can have some beautiful bridal pictures taken.  :)

#2 Sondiata & Lisa

“Two years ago I met Sondiata while watching my children attend a church youth event.  I watched as week after week, he played with my children while my husband was deployed.  He provided them with male interaction that they were craving.  I listened to him speak to our youth when our youth pastor was absent in awe of his passion for God.  After several months of observation, I began to wonder why one of the many single women in our community had not scooped him up.  And then….God showed us all that he had been saving our beloved “Sune” for someone special.  A girl named Lisa came along and swept him off his feet.  For a period of time, we were all deprived of Sune’s presence as God was building an life-long love.  Now they are getting married and I think that all of us who respect and admire them are on the edge of our seats waiting to see what God has in store for this power-couple.  What a beautiful picture of love they already paint.  I can only imagine what would be created between that beauty and Heather Bee’s talent.”

#3 Mitch & Katie

“Everyone who is lucky enough to be in the presence of Mitch, Katie, and Ruby Joy, knows that they are experiencing a little bit of heaven on earth.  Ruby came in to this world in July of 2009 with many challenges to overcome.  The doctors said she would not live a day and then three and then seven.  She proved them all wrong.  This little miracle girl took every “impossible” declared by a health-care professional and (with the help of God) turned it into a possible.  Mitch and Katie have walked through this very challenging first year of their daughter’s life with convicting, super-natural faith and the kind of grace and strength that only comes from our maker.  They named her Ruby Joy and she is just that.  A gem and a giver of joy.  I can’t think of a more deserving family for a free photo shoot and I certainly can’t think of a more deserving occasion to memorialize than the first year of Ruby Joy’s life.”

#4 John & Julie

“I think the John and Julie Lee should be selected to have their photos taken by Heather Bee. They are such humble servants who love God and love people, and they have a new baby! What better combo than that!”

So there you go….vote for your favorite below and spread the word:)

Generations… ~ Ohio Family Photographer

August 21st, 2010

While I was in Ohio I spent a morning with an old friend, Elizabeth, and her family.  This family went through a tragic loss last Christmas when Elizabeth’s husband, Steve, passed away unexpectedly.  I can not even imagine losing my husband and my heart breaks for Elizabeth.  They have one son, Karl, who is now an adorable little 2 year old.  With a renewed appreciation for images of loved ones,  Elizabeth asked to do a photo session with both sets of grandparents, along with she and Karl.  I was happy to oblige:)

Elizabeth – Thank you for trusting me to preserve these memories.  It was an honor.   Hope you enjoy your images:)

♥ Heather

The first part of the session was focused on getting a good image of the entire family.  I think this one is my favorite…

After we had gotten several family photos the focus of the session was changed to Karl.  We got some great ones!  This one is my favorite of mom & son.

Since we were right near the creek in Gahanna we let Karl play in the water.  He loved it!!!

There were tons of ducks around and at one point during the session Karl starting “quacking”;)  It was so very cute and made all of us laugh!

The Cacchio Family ~ Ohio Family Photographer

August 20th, 2010

I love growing with a a family:)  Nikki & Joey were married on 7.7.07 and I had the pleasure of being their wedding photographer.  It was such a fun day!  Shortly after they were married they found out they were pregnant with identical twin girls.   I remember getting email updates from Nikki during her pregnancy and the twins stay in the NICU.  They are now a a little over 2 years old and are very active toddlers:)  I was definitely very tired after this session:)

Nikki & Joey – Thank you for inviting me back into your family.  It was so fun seeing you guys as a family:)  Enjoy your photos!

♥ Heather

The girls were not quite sure what to think of me in the beginning……

Olivia…

Claire (she was pretty skeptical of this lady with the camera:), but we still  got some great shots!)…

I love this shot!  We were looking for monkeys here:)

Sister love…

This is probably my favorite image from the session.  It captures exactly what life is like with two twin toddlers:)

Braelynn Joan ~ Virginia Newborn Photographer

August 12th, 2010

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I was for this session!  Lately it seems like all the babies being born have been boys and while I love little boys; little girls allow for very cute headbands:)  The vision that I had for this session was vintage inspired by the headbands that I got off of Etsy awhile back.  On a side note, if you have not checked out Etsy, you must!!!  It is an amazing place to find unique gifts and such.  A lot of parents want the classic baby images where the baby is curled up and sleeping peacefully and in order to do this we must take the shots before the baby is two weeks old.  The sooner the better honestly. Thankfully Braelynn was 6 days old in these photos:)   She slept the whole time and let me curl her away!

Ray & Summer – you have a beautiful little girl and I am so thankful that you asked me to photograph her.  Thank you:)

♥ Heather

See they are really cute headbands on an adorable baby!

Seriously, look at those lips!

The most requested image is a shot of the baby in the daddy’s hands.  So, this time I tried something a little different.  I really like how it turned out!

I LOVE these next two images.  They embody so many emotions.  Ray & Summer – thank you for thinking out of the box with me on these.  I hope you love them as much as I do.

The Father….the strong protector…yet soft and gentle with his daughter…

A Mother…caring, gentle, and loving.  The way Braelynn already looks at her Mama makes my heart melt.

A more “classic” shot of the family

Feeling a bit sleepy…

August 11th, 2010

It has been a busy afternoon processing the images from Braelynn’s newborn session.  It is hard to stay awake though as I keep looking at her sleeping so peacefully and have two dogs sleeping at my feet (while snoring)!  Is it nap time yet?:)

Gavin James ~ Virginia Newborn Photographer

August 5th, 2010

After being at the hospital for the birth of Gavin I was so excited to see him again for his newborn session.  Gavin was 9 days old in these pics (if you are considering newborn photos they must be done within the first 2 weeks to get the bendy/sleepy images) and couldn’t have been more precious.  He slept the majority of the time and I was able to get some great shots!

Dana & Jessica – Once again, I am honored that you continue to choose me to document your growing family.  Thank you for being so patient:)  Love you both!

♥ Heather

A very classic newborn image, but probably one of my favorites in awhile.

LOVED the images on the blue blanket!

Seriously Jess – you are so beautiful.  The love for your son is so tangible here.

Big brother, Teagan, was not too happy with having his picture taken this day so we went for a different take on a family photo:)
